Repression and violence do not necessarily stop at borders (1, 2). For many Iranians abroad, fear surrounding Iran’s recent violent crackdowns on antigovernment protests has traveled through family ties and disrupted communication with loved ones who remain in Iran, making the violence feel immediate and personal in classrooms, laboratories, and workplaces thousands of miles away (3). These events have exposed global universities’ inadequate response to political trauma.
